Born in 1944 in Samakh, a village on the southern shore of Lake Tiberias.
Education:
Primary and secondary education in Irbid, Jordan.
Higher education in Ramallah and Beirut.
Holds a teaching diploma and a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Career:
Joined the Palestinian revolution in 1967.
Held various political, media, and cultural positions.
Elected Secretary-General of the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Journalists.
Served as Deputy Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Writers.
Director of the Cultural Department in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)
Chairman of the Higher Council for Education and Culture.
Minister of Culture in the Palestinian National Authority.

Awards:
Won the Palestine Prize for Literature.
