At its most recent meeting, the Board of Directors of the Yasser Arafat Foundation reviewed and evaluated the events marking the 21st anniversary of the martyrdom of the founding president, as well as the 61st anniversary of the launch of our contemporary revolution. On this ocasion, the Board extends its deepest pride and admiration to our steadfast and resilient people in Gaza, the West Bank including Jerusalem, and to our communities in near and distant exile, for their loyalty to Abu Ammar. Through honoring his life, martyrdom, and unwavering commitment to national principles, they have kept his legacy alive as a guiding light for national action, a role model, and a banner passed from generation to generation—until the day one of our young men or women raises the Palestinian flag over the walls, minarets, and churches of Jerusalem.
On the anniversary of President Abu Ammar’s martyrdom, many leaders and cadres revisited key chapters of his life and struggle through speeches, interviews, and media appearances. These contributions played an important role in preserving the symbolism of the leader and what he represents for our people and for free people around the world. However, it was with deep regret that we noted some instances in which an
unflattering and misleading image was presented of the symbol of Palestine and the initiator of its revolution—thereby causing harm, intentionally or otherwise, to Abu Ammar and to the Palestinian people. Accordingly, the Board of Directors of the Yasser Arafat Foundation affirms that the Foundation holds the mandate to safeguard the dignity, reputation, and symbolism of Abu Ammar, and it will not hesitate to
pursue legal action against anyone who insults or defames him, whether Palestinian, Arab, or foreign.
In the name of the Foundation, we once again extend our highest appreciation and gratitude to our heroic people. Victory is but a matter of patience; dawn is surely coming, and victory is surely coming.
