Board of Trustees Tenth Meeting at the Arab League

The tenth meeting for the Board of Trustees of Yasser Arafat Foundation was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.  A number of the Arab and Palestinian board members attended the meeting.  The Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees were re-elected, and Dr. Nabil Elaraby, former Secretary-General of the Arab League, was elected as a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.  
During the meeting, Dr. Nasser Alkidwa, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said “The work agenda of the Board of Trustees was comprehensive and successful along with the traditional activities that were carried out.”  He also discussed the events and accomplishments of the Foundation, including the inauguration of the Yasser Arafat Museum in November 2016, attended by many members of the Board of Trustees. 
The Foundation’s financial and external auditors’ reports as well as other reports related to the internal work were also presented to the Board at the meeting.  The laws and regulations of the Foundation were discussed and some amendments to the regulations were proposed. 
The political situation in the Arab region was addressed, particularly the current situation in Yemen and the division in Palestine. 
Ahmad Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League stated that the Palestinian cause is facing unprecedented threats, and the two-state solution is the only solution for a just settlement.  He also referred to UN Security Council resolution 2334, supported by an overwhelming majority, which addresses the issue of Israeli settlements in the occupied territory. 
In his speech, Palestinian Ambassador Jamal Al-Shobaki extended the regards of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to the Board of Trustees and wished them the best of luck in their work.
