A delegation from the Yasser Arafat Foundation, headed by Dr. Ahmed Soboh, Chairman of the Board, visited Modern University College on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, and met with Engineer Samer Al-Sheikhi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The delegation included Dr. Owda Masharqa, Director General of the Foundation; Fares Saqer, Director of Media and Public Relations; and Mahar Abu Ein, Director of Activities. From the university’s side, Nasser Al-Sheikhi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and members of the Public Relations team were present.
Dr. Soboh stated that the visit aimed to strengthen prospects for cooperation and joint work between the Foundation and the college, and to promote national values among Palestinian students across various academic disciplines.
He emphasized that the Foundation was established to preserve the legacy of the late leader Yasser Arafat and to document and pass on the history of the Palestinian people. Dr. Soboh noted that the Foundation has taken it upon itself to tell the story of the Palestinian cause and the life and struggle of Yasser Arafat.
He outlined the Foundation’s vision, mission, and goals, along with the programs and activities it carries out throughout the year.
He described the Yasser Arafat Museum and Mausoleum—now known as the Yasser Arafat Space—as the crown jewel of the Foundation’s work.
The museum includes a variety of exhibits, personal belongings, and films available in eight world languages, allowing both Arab and foreign visitors to explore Palestinian history. The museum also features a dedicated hall of Palestinian sources and academic references accessible to researchers, writers, and students.
Dr. Soboh invited the university’s leadership, faculty, and students to visit the museum to further instill national identity among students. During the visit, the Foundation presented the university with a collection of its visual and written publications, including the documentaries "An Unforgettable Life", Comrades of the Path, a selection of films documenting past activities, and bilingual editions (Arabic and English) of the books "An Unforgettable Life" and The Museum.
Engineer Samer Al-Sheikhi expressed appreciation for the visit, stressing the importance of the Foundation’s efforts to safeguard the legacy of Yasser Arafat and Palestinian history from erasure and distortion.
He emphasized the need to pass this legacy on to future generations. Al-Sheikhi stated that President Arafat remains a symbol of the Palestinian people, as an extraordinary figure who elevated the Palestinian cause to global prominence. He noted the significance of the Foundation’s programs, which cover various aspects of life, and highlighted that the college has collaborated with its departments to encourage students to participate in the Yasser Arafat Award for Research and Studies.
He also provided an overview of the college’s departments and academic programs, underscoring the importance of education in Palestine as a red line that must be protected, despite ongoing challenges.
He further mentioned that Modern University College publishes the first peer-reviewed legal journal among Palestinian universities and presented several of its issues to the Foundation’s delegation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed the importance of joint cooperation in serving the nation, students, and researchers, while preserving Palestinian identity and enhancing national cultural awareness among students.
