On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Dr. Ahmad Soboh, Chairman of the Board of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, welcomed Prof. Dr. Hussein Shanak, President of Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, along with Dr. Mahmoud Kmail, at the Yasser Arafat Museum in Ramallah. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Owda Masharqa, the Foundation’s Director General; Mohammad Halayqa, Director of the Museum; Fares Saqr, Director of Media and Public Relations; and Mahar Abu ein, Director of Activities.
Dr. Soboh emphasized that the meeting aimed to foster strategic cooperation between the Foundation and the University, particularly in enhancing national values among students across academic disciplines.
He provided an overview of the Foundation’s mission, which is centered on preserving the Palestinian national struggle, promoting democratic and national values, and safeguarding the legacy of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. He noted that the Foundation has committed itself to narrating the story of the Palestinian cause through Arafat's life and leadership, and highlighted its various initiatives and programs conducted throughout the year.
“We are proud to be hosting this meeting at the cornerstone of the Foundation’s work — the Yasser Arafat Museum,” Soboh said. He explained that the museum houses a rich collection of personal belongings, multimedia exhibits, and films available in eight languages, making Palestinian history accessible to both local and international visitors. It also includes a research center offering resources for scholars, writers, and students.
Dr. Soboh invited the university’s faculty and students to visit the museum to strengthen their connection to Palestinian identity and heritage.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Foundation presented the university president with a selection of its publications, including documentaries such as: An Unforgotten Life" and "Comrades on the Path", as well as bilingual editions of the Museum Book in both Arabic and English.
In response, Prof. Dr. Hussein Shanak expressed his appreciation to the Yasser Arafat Foundation's leadership and staff for their dedicated efforts in preserving the legacy of President Arafat. He commended the museum’s role as a national, cultural, and tourist landmark.
Shanak underscored the importance of building a collaborative relationship between the university and the Foundation, especially in ways that benefit students and serve Palestinian society as a whole. He affirmed the university’s readiness to sign memorandums of understanding and cooperation in various fields, including access to the Foundation’s archives and knowledge exchange between both institutions.
He also gave a brief presentation on the academic programs offered by Kadoorie University at the bachelor's, master’s, and doctoral levels.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Yasser Arafat Museum led by Mohammad Halayqa, who provided the delegation with insights into the Palestinian national movement and the life story of the late leader Yasser Arafat.
