Members of the Board of Trustees of Yasser Arafat Foundation elected Dr. Mamdouh Al-Abadi Chair of the Board, replacing former Chair, H.E. Amr Moussa. The members of the Board also elected Dr. Nabil Shaath as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Foundation.

The elections were held in an emergency meeting of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, held on Saturday, 14 August 2021, via Zoom.  Sixty of the 87 prominent Palestinian and other Arab members of the Board of Trustees participated in the emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees. 

Mrs. Dalal Salama was elected Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Mr. Ali Muhanna as Vice Chair of the Foundation's Board of Directors.  Also elected were new members of the board, namely, ladies and gentlemen,  Mrs. Intisar Al-Wazir "Um Jihad,” Mr. Munib Al-Masry, Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, Mr. Yahya Khalaf, Dr. Walid Salman, Dr. Ola Awad, Mr. Musa Hadid, Dr.  Hassan Fahs and Dr. Ibrahim Al-Rifai.

 

Shaath opened the meeting in his capacity as the former Vice President of the Board of Trustees.  He  welcomed the guests and called for a moment of silence and reading of Al-Fatiha for the souls of President Yasser Arafat, the late members of the Board of Trustees, and the martyrs of Palestine and the Arab nation.

Shaath thanked President Mahmoud Abbas for his continuous support of the Foundation, and also thanked Amr Moussa and former chair of the Board of Directors Dr. Nasser Al-Kidwa for their service to the Foundation since its establishment 14 years ago.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh spoke about the political situation.  He saluted the Board of Trustees for their loyalty to Palestine and late President Yasser Arafat and conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas, assuring the members of the continued support of the President and government for Yasser Arafat Foundation.

Shtayyeh thanked Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, for his longstanding support of the Foundation, and thanked Amr Moussa and Dr. Al-Kidwa for their contributions to the Foundation over the past years.  He also thanked for Acting Chair of the Board of Directors Mr. Ali Muhanna, and Director General Dr. Ahmed Sobh, for their leadership of the Foundation during the recent circumstances.

Al-Abadi expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him by the members of the Board of Trustees.  He stressed his keenness to continue the noble mission of the Foundation, its vital efforts in documenting the Palestinian and Arab narrative, and its distinguished achievements in furthering  Palestinian and Arab efforts.

Al-Abadi thanked President Mahmoud Abbas for his continuous support of the Foundation, as well as that of Amr Moussa and Dr. Al-Kidwa.
