Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yasser Arafat Foundation, Dr. Nasser Alkidwa, joined Mayor of Palermo, the capital of the Italian region of Sicily, Leoluca Orlando, at an inauguration ceremony on the 29th of October 2019, to dedicate a site and memorial in the name of our late president and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Yasser Arafat.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Omar Al-Faqih, Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Palestine to Italy, Italian dignitaries, and members of the Palestinian community in Italy.
Dr. Alkidwa also gave a lecture in Palermo that was attended by senior officials and a large audience of educators and students. Dr. Alkidwa spoke about the situation in Palestine, in particular, the intensification of settler colonialism and the absolute necessity for the international community to assume its political and legal responsibilities to facilitate the Palestinian people’s achievement of their national independence.
