A delegation from the Yasser Arafat Foundation, headed by Dr. Ahmed Soboh, Chairman of the Board of Directors, visited Istiqlal University on Sunday, 11/05/2025, and met with Dr. Noureddine Abu Al-Rub, President of the University, at the University's headquarters in Jericho.
The delegation included Dr. Odeh Masharqa, Director General of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, Fares Saqer, Director of Media and Public Relations, and Mahar Abu Ein, Activities Director from the Yasser Arafat Foundation, and the administrative, financial and public relations staff from Istiqlal University.
Dr. Soboh said that the idea of establishing the Yasser Arafat Foundation came to preserve the material and moral legacy of the founding president Yasser Arafat and preserve the history of the Palestinian people, explaining that it was an obligation to tell the history of the Palestinian cause to understand Yasser Arafat, reviewing the vision, mission, objectives, activities and programs throughout the year.
Dr. Soboh added: “The most important thing that the Foundation has done is the establishment of the Yasser Arafat Museum and Mausoleum,” which is currently called Yasser Arafat Square, pointing out that the museum contains many materials, properties and films available in eight international languages to enable Arab and foreign visitors to learn about Palestinian history, as the museum contains a special hall for Palestinian sources and scientific references available to researchers, writers, and students.
Dr. Soboh called on the university presidency, professors, and students to visit the Yasser Arafat Museum to strengthen their national identity.
A number of the Foundation’s visual and written publications were handed over to the university president, including: Documentary films, unforgettable life, comrades of the path films, a collection of films about the Foundation’s previous activities, the book Unforgettable Life in Arabic and English, and the museum book in Arabic and English.
Dr. Noureddine Abu Al-Rub, President of Istiqlal University, appreciated the visit of Dr. Soboh and his accompanying delegation, stressing the importance of the Yasser Arafat Foundation’s great national work in preserving the history of the late President Yasser Arafat and his comrades and bequeathing it to the current generation.
Yasser Arafat is the symbol of the Palestinian cause, his name is associated with Palestine, and his personality was the key to introducing him to the outside world.
Dr. Abu Al-Rub expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Yasser Arafat Foundation in areas that serve students, pointing out the importance of the Foundation’s openness to universities for its important role in nurturing the national and political culture of our students, especially at Al-Istiqlal University.
Abu Al-Rub said: “Visiting the Yasser Arafat Museum will be a requirement for graduation from Istiqlal University.” Abu Al-Rub also honored Dr. Soboh and his accompanying delegation.
At the end of the meeting, the two parties emphasized the importance of joint cooperation to serve the people of the homeland, students and researchers, preserve Palestinian identity and being, and develop and enhance students’ national cultural knowledge.
