The Yasser Arafat Foundation and Birzeit University affirm their mutual cooperation

A delegation from the Yasser Arafat Foundation, headed by Dr. Ahmad Sobh, Chairman of the Board, met with Dr. Talal Shahwan, President of Birzeit University, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the university’s presidency headquarters in Ramallah.

The delegation included Dr. Owda Masharqa, General Director of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, Fares Saqr, Head of Media and Public Relations, and Mahar Abu Ain, Head of Activities at the Yasser Arafat Foundation. From Birzeit University, Dr. Rana Al-Khatib, Vice President for Planning and Development, and Dr. Yasser Amouri, Vice President for Development and Communication, attended.

Dr. Soboh provided a detailed explanation of the foundation's vision, message, and objectives, along with many of its activities and programs, the most important of which are the annual commemoration of the
martyrdom of the founding leader Yasser Arafat, the Yasser Arafat Achievement Award, the "In the National Memory" program—Comrades on the Path, the Yasser Arafat Award for Research and Studies, and the Palestinian Refugees' Land Ownership Program.

Dr. Soboh stated, "The jewel of the foundation’s work is the Yasser Arafat Museum and his tomb," noting that the museum contains many materials, belongings, and films available in multiple languages to allow both Arab and foreign visitors to learn about Palestinian history.
The museum also features a special hall for Palestinian sources and scientific references available for researchers, writers, and students.

A collection of visual and written publications from the foundation was presented to the university president, including the documentary films "An Unforgettable Life," "Comrades on the Path," a set of films about the foundation’s previous activities, the book "An Unforgettable Life" in both Arabic and English, and the book about the museum in both Arabic and English. Dr. Ahmad also delivered a letter to the university president about the Yasser Arafat Award for Research and Studies program.

Dr. Talal Shahwan warmly welcomed the foundation’s delegation, expressing his high appreciation for the foundation and its activities and programs provided to the Palestinian people. He emphasized his pride in Birzeit University, which received the Yasser Arafat Achievement Award in 2018. He said that the high value of the late President Yasser Arafat made his name synonymous with the State of Palestine on the global level.

Dr. Shahwan also pointed out the importance of connecting certain university faculties with the Yasser Arafat Foundation regarding programs that intersect in serving students and researchers. He confirmed the university's readiness to cooperate with the foundation in areas that serve students, highlighting the importance of the foundation's openness to universities due to their significant role in fostering national cultural awareness.

At the end of the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation to serve the people, students, and researchers, preserve the Palestinian identity and existence, and develop and enhance national cultural knowledge among students.
