Yasser Arafat Foundation Mourns the Passing of Board Member Kamal Al-Sharafi

The Yasser Arafat Foundation, including its Board of Trustees, management, and staff, mourns the passing of its board member, Dr. Kamal Al-Sharafi, who passed away on March 10, 2025, in Bulgaria.


The foundation extends its condolences to his family, friends, and the Palestinian people, praying for his soul’s peace and asking for patience for his loved ones. "To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return".

About Dr. Kamal Al-Sharafi

Dr. Al-Sharafi, born in 1958 in the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, was a prominent Palestinian political figure. He served as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council from 1996 for ten years and chaired the Human Rights Oversight Committee. He held significant roles, including Minister of Health (2003), Minister of Social Affairs (2013), and Presidential Advisor for Human Rights and Civil Society.

He led several NGOs focused on human rights and civil society and was also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Aqsa University, a member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and Chairman of several other boards related to human rights and civil society.

Dr. Al-Sharafi played a vital role in mediating between Fatah and Hamas, gaining respect across all Palestinian factions. He was a founding member of the Yasser Arafat Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

He passed away in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, on March 10, 2025.
