Born in Anabta East of Tulkarem District .
Graduated with a Bachelor Degree from the School of commerce in Cairo.
Joined FATH Movement at a very early stage.
Joined the first group from FATH movement who enrolled at the Military Academy in Nanjing in China.
Chaired the General Union of Palestine Students in Cairo and was apprenticed at the hands of the late leader Yasser Arafat.
He is the son of the famous poet Abdel Rahim Mahmoud who fell while leading the freedom fighters in the battle of Shjarah and who wrote the famed poem which starts with this verse “ I shall carry my soul at my palm to throw it in the abysses of death” –
Appointed as the general Political Commissioner for the revolution’s Forces. Later he became the head of Al Assefa (the Storm) Radio Station and afterwards he was appointed as the director of the PLO radio station.
Appointed as the PLO ambassador to China and commissioned as its Representative in Egypt and Yugoslavia and later on was appointed as the PLO ambassador to Jordan.
Became a member in the Palestinian National Council, the Revolutionary Council of FATH and its Central Committee.
Participated in Oslo Accords negotiations and is considered to be a key factor in establishing the Palestinian National Authority.
Returned with Yasser Arafat to the Palestinian Territories and from 1993 until he passed away in the year 2020 he was tasked to run the Palestinian Presidential Affairs unit.
He won the Palestinian Legislative Elections of 1996 as FATH candidate for the District of Tulkarem.
He headed during his life the Committee to dialogue with the Palestinian opposition groups. In 1997 he headed the National Inquiry Commission Against Corruption .
Ran the elections campaign for President Mahmoud Abbas and headed the National Inquiry Committee to investigate the failure to confront outlawed militias in the Gaza Strip in 1997.
Passed Away in Cairo on 18 March 2020 after a struggle with illness.
