On 10/13/2022, the board of directors of Yasser Arafat Foundation held its 53rd meeting which was chaired by the acting head of the Board (Mr. Ali Muhanna along with the President of the Board of Trustees Dr. Mamdouh El- Abadi), the Director General of the Foundation and the Head of Yasser Arafat Museum. Modern video conference techniques were used in order to communicate with the diaspora Board members.
During this meeting, the board discussed and approved the program for commemorating the 18th martyrdom anniversary of the founding leader, Yasser Arafat and decided to hold the main activities of this occasion on 10 November 2022 (6 pm) at the Ramallah Cultural Palace. It was also decided to consider the Palestinian flag as the main political topic for this anniversary by promoting, advancing and defending it because it is the symbol of our national pride.
The board also discussed the committee’s report pertaining to Yasser Arafat Award for Achievement for the current year which will be awarded to the winner during the commemoration ceremonies as has been the norm over the last 16 years.
The Board of Directors agreed to start preparations for the next upcoming 14th periodical Board of Trustees meeting which will take place as scheduled during the first quarter of next year. In addition, the board ratified and approved the financial and administrative report which was presented by the management of the Foundation and expressed its satisfaction with the progress of the work.
During this meeting, the Board members evaluated the activities, events and programs which were carried out by the Foundation, namely the inauguration of “Impact” exhibition. The participants expressed their appreciation for the marked return of visitors to the museum and for adding nine languages to explain about the displayed objects. Likewise, the board members applauded the success of Yasser Arafat summer camps and the publication of the 30th edition of “Awarak Filistinia ”- Palestinian Folios-. Members taking part in this meeting noted that the National Knowledge competition has proven over the last consecutive years to be a successful program that needs to be developed further.
The Board members considered the program of this year as another success, namely, "In the National Memory", Comrades on the Path, which commemorated the birth anniversaries of national heroes such as Khaled Al-Hassan (13/2/2022), Dr. George Habash (2/8/2022), Salah Khalaf Abu-Iyad (31/8/2022), and Khalil Al-Wazir-Abu Jihad (10/10/2022). The Board of Directors decided to keep this important program active by choosing another group of leaders to be remembered during the next year. It was decided that early next year, the museum will organize an exhibition about the Settler Colonialism in Palestine.
The board of directors asked the Palestinian political groups who are convening in Algeria to place the national interests above any differences in order to strengthen the internal front and to withstand jointly the Israeli hegemonial aggression against our entire soil.
The assembly plead for mercy for the souls of the martyrs and paid special tribute to the heroic prisoners, particularly the sick ones, the minors and those who are on hunger strike. In addition to the freedom fighters who are resisting the Israeli occupation in Jenin, Nablus, Jerusalem, and across our occupied land.
The Board of Directors concluded the meeting by calling upon the great people of Palestine to commemorate the eighteenth anniversary of the martyrdom of President Yasser Arafat and to plead mercy for his blessed soul and the souls of all our martyrs.
