Subhi Abu Karsh (1936-1994)

• On 16 July 1936, Subhi Abu Karsh (Abu al Munther) was born in the Gaza city to a Gazan family in the area of Ash Shuja’iya. 

• After he had obtained the secondary education certificate in 1953, Abu al Munther left Gaza for Saudi Arabia and worked as a teacher in several areas in the Kingdom. 

• In 1959, Abu al Munther engaged in secret activity in the Eastern Region. After it was proclaimed in 1965, he cofounded the Fatah branch office in that area. 

• In 1964, Abu al Munther graduated from the Riyadh University with a B.A. in commerce. 

• Abu al Munther was then employed at the Saudi Ministry of Agriculture. 

• Under auspices of Prince Suleiman Bin Abdul Aziz, Abu al Munther and other activists established the Committee for Assistance of Palestinian Mujahidin. This initiative was a response to the then prevalent Zionist slogan: “Pay a dollar and kill an Arab”. 

• In 1968, Abu al Munther left Saudi Arabia for Jordan, where he devoted his time and effort to the struggle activity. 

• Abu al Munther assumed many military, organisational and political responsibilities, including Military Management in Dar’a and Al Hama (1969-71) in Syria and Fatah financial affairs (1971-73). 

• In 1973-74, Abu al Munther and Kamal ‘Adwan were in charge of Administrative and Financial Affairs of the Occupied Territory Agency. 

• In the 5th Fatah General Conference of 1989, Abu al Munther was elected member on the Fatah Central Committee. 

• Abu al Munther was the Palestine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia until he died of an incurable disease on 4 January 1994.
