He was born in 1948 in Cairo, Egypt. 
He graduated from Cairo University with a bachelor's degree in 1972 and from the Serbian University of Belgrade with master's and Ph.D. degrees in international relations and national security in 1987.
Elected to the Egyptian Parliament for the 2015/2020 term as Chairman of the Middle East Forum for Strategic Studies.
He worked as an assistant to martyr Khalil Al-Wazir "Abu Jihad", from 1976 to 1988.
President Mahmoud Abbas bestowed the Palestine Medal of Achievement and Merit on him in 2014.
Political officer for the Beirut Liberation Movements Office in 1977.
Chief Editor of the Palestinian Military Magazine - The Battle 1980, Occupied Lands Authority - Western.
Director of the Holy Center for Strategic Studies in Gaza from 1998 until 2005.
He has five books published and several articles published in specialist Arab publications. 
He supervises many master's and doctorate dissertations in Egyptian universities on a part-time basis.
Member of the Board of Trustees of the Yasser Arafat Foundation .
