Born in Jerusalem in 1975.
Dr. Awad earned her PhD in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK, and has been serving as the President of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics since 2010.
Dr. Awad has led numerous statistical and leadership initiatives at various levels, receiving international recognition for her pioneering leadership, particularly as the first woman from developing countries and the Arab region to serve as President of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS).
Internationally, Dr. Awad has represented the Arab region in several significant positions, including as a member of the High-Level Group for Partnership, Coordination, and Capacity Building for Statistics for the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda since 2015 and co-chairing the group from 2020 to 2023. Additionally, she is currently serving as co-chair of the Programme Committee for the United Nations Global Data Forum 2024, co-chair of the Advisory Board of The Augusta Victoria Hospital (AVH), and is a member of the Board of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) and the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21).
Regionally, Dr. Awad holds key roles in several organizations and bodies, including the Board of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the International Advisory Committee for the Abu Dhabi Statistics Center, she is a member of the Board of Harvard Data Science, a member of the advisory council of the UN Women Gender-Responsive Policy Institute, and a member of the Middle East Young Leaders Initiative of the Aspen Institute.
Locally, Dr. Awad is actively involved in many health, educational, social, and economic institutions. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Open University of Al-Quds, a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Azhar University, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Yasser Arafat Foundation, a member of its Board of Directors, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Palestinian Economic Policy Research Institute (MAS), and a member of its Executive Office, among others.
