Yasser Arafat  Award of Achievement


The Yasser Arafat Achievement Award is an annual award given by the Yasser Arafat Foundation to promote innovation and serious and notable work in the fields of national, cultural, social, economic, and scientific/academic fields. Every year, the Foundation commemorates the founding president's martyrdom. The following are some details about the award:


• The award is granted to living people, organizations, institutions, or work teams. Each year, the award is announced on May 1st, and nominations are accepted until July 31st. The award includes a patent (certificate), an authorized model, and $25,000 in cash.


• Nominations must be made by a nominating body, which is responsible for presenting evidence of the candidate's eligibility for the award.


• Competing candidates are assessed using five criteria and attributes: originality and innovation, the consolidation of the leadership style, the effort used to complete the project, the work's long-term good influence, and popular appreciation for the work performed.


• The award committee assesses and evaluates the competing works in phases, culminating in the selection of a short list of 3-4 contenders for the award, after which the award winners are chosen.


The Award Framework


Article (1): This bylaw is authorized and executed based on the requirements of the Yasser Arafat Foundation's fundamental bylaw and is regarded supplementary to and read in conjunction with it for its execution.
Article (2): The award is intended to stimulate and recognize outstanding success in the sectors of national, cultural, social, economic, scientific, and academic fields.
Article (3): The Yasser Arafat Achievement Award, frequently referred to as the Award, is given by paragraph (6) of Article (4) of the Yasser Arafat Foundation's bylaws.
Article (4): The execution of this system is overseen by the "Awards Committee formed under Article 22 of the Foundation's basic bylaws, and hereinafter referred to as the Committee."
Article (5): The committee establishes internal rules to govern its work and makes decisions by consensus. If this is not achievable, a simple majority of voters and a quorum (more than half of the total number of members) are necessary for convening the session and making decisions.
Article (6): A- The award is given out once a year and comprises the award's patent, an authorized model, and a monetary prize of $25,000.
B- The Committee may decide not to grant or withhold the award in any given year, and the financial value of the award does not accumulate if it is not awarded in any given year.
Article (7): The award is made to the recipient (person, institution, or work team) based on recorded works, and it cannot be made otherwise.
Article (8): Award nomination processes
A- No one is permitted to propose themself for the award.
B- The nominating party may be Palestinian or Arab, however, the committee will only accept nominations from the entities listed below.
*Institutions and corporate organizations are represented by councils.
* Individuals with proven expertise and a solid professional reputation.
C- The candidate must be a living Palestinian, an individual, or an existing institution who has provided significant services to the homeland through his work in any of the areas mentioned in Article (1) above, and a non-Palestinian may be nominated if he has provided significant services to Palestine.
D- The candidate must attach to the nomination form a paragraph in Arabic of no more than 60 words outlining the reasons for the nomination, which will be used to draft the patent of the award if it is given to this candidate.


Selection Criteria


The remarkable achievement contains several characteristics and components that contribute to the overall uniqueness of the candidate's work, thus the work is anticipated to be unique and creative and must have developed a leadership style in the specified subject. the effort put in completing the task should be considered evidence of tenacity and devotion, as well as to have had a major constructive and sustainable influence on a wide scale, which helps society, and it also has public support, particularly among the groups that are directly affected by it.
It is the nominator's responsibility to provide all documents and information that qualify the nominated party, the award committee will only evaluate what it wants and will not take responsibility for fulfilling the deficiencies. 
Based on a careful evaluation of the submitted nominations, the Committee assesses the work and eligibility of the nominated party and prepares a shortlist.  After further evaluation, a final decision is made and the winner of the award is selected. 


Nomination Conditions


1. The candidate should be alive and well, whether he is a Palestinian or a non-Palestinian, an existing institution or a work team that has provided or is continuing to provide great services to Palestine through their work and activities in the national, economic, social, cultural, or academic fields. 
2. The nomination be provided by a Palestinian or Arab organization or legal entity, or by a legal person with competence and a recognized professional reputation, and applications from applicants themselves to receive the award are not accepted.
3. The subject of the nomination should not be restricted to a specific activity of the candidate, whether an individual or an organization, but rather to the candidate's total activity.
4. An official letter from two independent bodies, whatever they are (legal people or legal entities), shall be used declaring that they know the candidate and have information and knowledge of his actions in the nomination file.
5. The entity submitting the nomination application and the candidates are responsible for providing conclusive and clear evidence that confirms the validity of what was stated in the nomination file, as nomination applications that are not documented in writing will be rejected.
6. The entity submitting for candidacy must get the consent of candidates, whether an individual or an organization, by adding an official letter to the nomination application expressing its acceptance of the nomination and wish to compete for the award.
7. In the case of people, the entity submitting for candidacy shall include a copy of the candidate's CV as well as a copy of his identity card or passport. In the case of nominated institutions, the applicant must present a copy of the institution's certificate and date of registration, as well as a detailed description of its purpose, articles of organization, board of directors, and objectives, as well as its accomplishments.
8. The nomination applications must be filed by the above requirements by July 31, 2023.
Individuals, institutions, and work teams among our Palestinian people constantly carry out remarkable achievements that need to be recognized. The award committee encourages all interested parties to compete for this award, keeping in mind that it will only be granted to one winner and that those who were shortlisted but did not win in a previous year may be re-nominated.
